Maurice Richardson Jr. began his television career as a junior in college.
Currently, he is working for ESPNU Campus Connection as a sideline sports
reporter. Before joining ESPNU in August 2011, Maurice worked for Fox 40
WDBD-TV in Jackson, Mississippi as a sports reporter from January 2011- August
2011.
Prior to that, he was a sports intern at Fox 40 from August 2010-
December 2010. He is also the Sports Director for Jackson State University
closed-circut campus television station JSU22 in Jackson, Mississippi.
He created the first ever football halftime show for JSU22. Also, Maurice worked
for the school radio station WJSUFM 88.5 and has written for numerous
newspaper companies.
He is currently a senior at Jackson State University majoring in Mass
Communications with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in
Recreation Administration. Maurice grew up in Decatur, Georgia where he
enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and football. He has a strong love and
passion for all types of sports. From little league to the major league
sports, he is there to cover it.
During his junior year in college, Maurice was awarded First Place in the
radio College/University division from the Mississippi Associated Press for
"Best Feature Story," and "Best Newscast,". Also, he was recognized for his
excellent writing skills from the Mississippi Press Association for "Best
Sports Story," on Jackson State University sweeps Southern University.
In 2009, Maurice was named Mr. National Association of Black Journalists
for Jackson State University chapter. Maurice is a member of National Association of Black Journalists, Society of Professional Journalists, and Phi Epsilon Kappa (Physical Education and Recreation Fraternity).
Maurice loves sports and truly believes that if you are in the television or
newspaper industry, you must be hardworking, determined, dedicated, excited,
focused, and a believer in order to be successful. In his spare time, Maurice
enjoys doing community service, spending time with family and friends,
traveling, and visiting new restaurants.
